1.2 Milestone 1

Good evening everyone!

I have just released the first milestone build, for the next major version of the game (version 1.2).

After some feedback, the first thing I wanted to address in 1.2, was the character controller. Until now I have been using Unity's premade first-person controller, but creating my own solution has been long overdue.

That has been the main focus of my work today, so there won't be too many visual changes you will notice in this build. However, the behind-the-scenes changes will really help streamline development in the future.

To just briefly run through some technical changes in this new version;

  • I have refined the camera controls with better rotational clamping.
  • A new and improved system for exchanging control of the camera, between different gameplay systems has been introduced.
  • Access to camera and player control properties by other systems has been improved.
  • The way that different footstep sounds are loaded into memory has been optimized, so that this takes place asynchronously, in the background.

Lastly, I am happy to report that the nauseating left/right tilt of the camera frame has been fixed! It now stays perfectly level, no matter how much you move around.

As for bugs; I did notice that now, pressing the spacebar doesn't always trigger a jump. I was unable to resolve this today but I will try to fix this later. If you find any new bugs I haven't spotted, please let me know!
